I'm currently going through and playing FFV alone and FFVIII with Melissa. I've really enjoyed FFV a lot, and definately recommend it as far as games go. Simple storyline, easy understandable job system that is very diverse, good characters, and some of the cutest creature moments ever (the black chocobo does a great dance in his forest). FFVIII however is very different, with totally different gameplay. It's got a very difficult to understand storyline, a horrible soundtrack, and an entire side story that really needs to be explained by the main story instead of helping one understand the main story (rather counter-intuitive). The main character is also (imo) a very bad character that might or might now grow with the story (we need to finish to actually see). Basically I've had to read all the background on the story to be able to understand it, which is never a good sign of a good story. However, because I know how to interpret it, it is fun to play. Anyways, all that to say that I found a quote about Squall (main character of FFVIII) on some boards and thought I'd share.
"Seriously, [Squall] was so depressing he should have had a Limit Break called Wrist Slash."
Well, there probably was a reason why they had a kickin' character that was a strong woman in glasses that dressed in red leather and used a whip in battle. Quistis has probably broken too many young boy's hearts, and only added to the delusionary view of women. Doesn't take away from her awesomeness at all!

Pithy Quote
In tribute to Sam Jackson's famous quote "The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" allow me to offer a good one against some rather silly arguments such as conspiracy theories and the like.
"An argument from absence is the absence of an argument."
Remember to include me in all footnotes and bibliography. ;)

Update
Well thank God is all I have to say. Today the strike has ended, and starting tomorrow the trash will begin to be picked in Vancouver. About time is about the only thing that can be said about it. The irony? Our trash still isn't scheduled to be picked up until Thursday. On an interesting note though, homemade fruit fly collection kits work perfectly. A little apple cider vinegar in the bottom of a glass, put plastic wrap on the top to seal it, then poke some holes in it. They fly in, but can't get out. A lowend estimate for the number of fruit flies we've caught/killed or just smacked to death this week: at least 500. There's probably twice that number still left, but we think its at least going to start being manageable after the trash gets picked up.
On another note, the UK Wildcats beat LSU last night, upsetting the number 1 team. Now I don't know how this slipped by customs, but the game was played here in Vancouver. Meaning, I did squat for homework and watched the nearly 4.5 hour game instead. If they show the UK/Florida game next week, I'll be so much more behind. I already am behind, but that's besides the point.
